This is to remind you that all Coursework must now be submitted by 9.00am on the day of the stated deadline.

I cant understand why the deadline has been changed to 9.00am. Is there a logical reason for this or is it just to make sure students get up early? Some clarification as to the reasons for the change would be much appreciated.
Totally confused with it having moved to 9am, as it will be a big problem for commutters, meaning we will either have to hand it day earlier or sit in traffic and up very early. However, do we still get 24hours?
During last year we received feedback from students that there was currently potential for inconsistencies in the interpretation of the late submission procedures when applying the 24 hour or 5 day rule. A single submission time has been implemented to help in the advice staff at the university provide to students regarding late submission.
It was agreed that a 9.00am submission time would be the most appropriate standard time. The rationale for adopting this time is that it allows students to work during the evening and early hours before submission, it will not discourage students from missing taught sessions on the day of a deadline and that it will treat part-time students who are unable to attend between 9am and 5pm equitably.
Can I please point out that for people not living on campus, especially with jobs and/or children this will mean that the assignment will have to be handed in the day before it is due. For some students, it will mean an extra (possibly evening) trip to university. This unduly penalises commuting students, who are in the majority mature students.
It is also not environmentally friendly.
For those that have to travel by public transport and live in the sticks this will mean handing in 1 day earlier as arriving before 9am is often impossible. Also for those that work full time, this restricts when they can get to Uni to hand it in, which leads me to the point of why can’t we have on-line submission of assigments – is there a reason?
Can I ask Registry Services to define “It was agreed..” Who agreed it and in consultation with whom?
I agree with Jan Simms comment that this unduly penalises mature off-campus students who will have to make an extra, expensive and environmentally unfriendly, and inconvenient trip to campus the day before submission date in order to comply with the new rule. In most cases a submission time is by close of business on the submission date, i.e. 5pm.
I cant see what the big fuss is. I live in Gloucester, I drive in every day and I actually work on a Monday when most of my deadlines are. All I will do is make sure that I stay off Facebook and Twitter long enough to get my assignment finished afew days early. Simple.
Failing that ill hand my assignment in at 8am (when I arrive) on Tuesday, safely within the 24hr grace period.
Why did you decide to make it 9am? Why not midday or at the end of normal Uni studies like 5pm/6pm?
I know this sounds bad but you actually expect Students to get up for 9am it’s quite amusing how stupid some people are. Even lecturers know Students won’t do things in the early mornings, which is why most of mine have pushed the early morning lectures a bit later to encourage more students to attend
If you think having it at 9am will stop people skipping lectures you are much mistaken, it will just encourage them to stay up all night, hand the work in at 9am, then go back to bed, missing any lectures that were that day anyway.
Well done for another idiotic move on the University part. You are trying to do to much too quickly and it is slowly ruining this University. Hire more Staff and Increase PARKING. Oh and now make a convenient time for hand ins NOT during freaking rush hour which means driving down a road that is already filled with parents dropping kids off at the primary school.
I am a mature nursing student on placement as living 48 miles from the University. Yes, I have children and other responsibilities, and am fully committed to a plan which allowed me 6 remaining writing days for my work, two pieces of coursework due for submision on 26 November. I found out about this change yesterday (16 November), and must say “thank you very much” to Worcester University, for once again making an arbitrary change without thinking of the consequences for others. My work will no doubt be reduced in quality for the 1/6 reduction in writing time.
Well done – have a nice life!
As I understand it (although I may be wrong)this was a problem was resolved with a later deadline some time ago.
I can understand that last years deadline gave the admin staff some problems as they obviously don’t want to stay past their woking hours to sort our assignments but this issue was debated some years ago and a 9am deadline was finally rejected.
Couldn’t a deadline of 12 noon or 2pm have been set as as compromise.
If we are to use the 24 hour grace on a regular basis then it is no longer a grace period.
As said before, this only makes it beneficial to people who are on campus and can take advantage of actually using the overnight time to write it, and then actually hand it in before 9am. Alot of students live at home, and travel from a range of distances from the University, meaning that myself and the others will have to hand it in the day before to ensure we are not penalized.
It was interesting to read on one of the later posts, the poll, that they thought the 9am would allow us astudents to complete our assignments on the evening or early hours! so does this mean for example, a student living in Telford, should stay up until say approx 2/3am finishing the assignment, have 3/4 hours sleep having to get up at approx 3.30am to then drive an hour and half to drop in assignment before deadline… wow.. that is such a good idea! Sleep deprived drivers behind the wheel!!!

The existing 24 hour and 5 day rules still apply. For information concerning late submission see http://www2.worc.ac.uk/registry/pdf/Proceduresforlatesubmissionofassignments.pdf

some of students around me want to know whether they can change the time from 9 in the morning to the 2 or 3 in the afternoon afternoon.
